Improvement has already taken place in the Kiel volleyball program as for the first time in several years the entire coaching staff has returned: Brittany Bushman as varsity coach, Michelle and Gabby Daane as JV-1 coaches and Jerry Baeckmann as JV-2 coach. Bushman has some graduation losses to overcome, but the Raiders could have one of their better seasons in quite some time.
The Raider volleyball preview:

Head Coach: Brittany Bushman (2nd season)
2018 Record: 1-28 overall; 0-8 conference (8th place)
State Tournament History: Kiel has never qualified for WIAA State.

Looking back at 2018: A victory over St. Francis was the lone mark in the left hand column as a young Raider team struggled in their rebuilding. The play of senior Caroline Heckmann at middle blocker and outside hitter earned her honorable mention all-conference. Other seniors were Marilee Krebsbach, Payton Klabechek and Emily Suchan.

A look ahead at 2019: Kiel can only move up as the rebuild continues. The most promising part of this process is that the coaching staff returns and the girls do not have to learn a new system. Also giving much hope is the fact that seven letter winners return from 2018 in Mekenzie Biwan, Kasey Schaefer, Rachel Horneck, Elizabeth Daane, Alyssa Vogel, McKensie Hickman and Carleen Meyer. Help also comes from last year’s JV-1 team. Kiel has very good numbers and depth at all three levels and a move up the conference standings is a very reachable goal.
As far as the conference goes, defending champ Chilton is undergoing a rebuilding season making this year’s title race wide open. Sheboygan Falls has two Second Team all-conference players back and may have a slight edge on others.
