Things were going good for the New Holstein wrestlers last winter until mid-season injuries started to take its toll. The 2019-20 season starts with a similar message as one of the top returnees will already miss most of the season. But there are other quality wrestlers back and the Huskies look forward to the challenges.

The New Holstein wrestling preview:

NEW HOLSTEIN WRESTLING
COACH: Josh Buechel (6th season)
2018-19 RECORD: 1-6 (6th place) in Eastern Wisconsin Conference duals; 7th Place at EWC Tournament; No state qualifiers.

2018-19 REVIEW: The Huskies posted a conference dual win over Valders, but did not have the depth to compete against the top half of the conference. Michael Volz fell one win shy of making state taking fourth at sectionals. Jon Sesing started the season off 15-0 and was state ranked. He finished third at regionals just missing sectionals.

2018-19 PREVIEW: Things were really looking up for New Holstein as they returned most of last season’s roster, but Sesing suffered a major leg injury and may not return to the mat until late in the season. Volz is the top returnee and making state is his top priority. Shaun Pernell was on his way to sectionals, but an unfortunate injury forced him to miss regionals a year ago. He returns at 285 after taking third in conference. Others back are Josh Rach, Jacob Rach, Nathan Boehnlein, Devyn Birschbach and Mackenzie Ditter.
Coach Buechel looks to avoid further injuries and may not have the depth to challenge the top four in the conference, but getting state qualifiers is the aim.
