The Chilton Tiger football team turned to its defense for a pair of huge goal-line stops as the Tigers opened up WIAA Division 5 football playoff action with a hard-fought 27-14 win over Wittenberg-Birnamwood Friday night at chilly Morrissey Field.

Leading 12-0 late in the second quarter, Chilton saw the Chargers drive to the Tiger 3 yard line when the defensive front put a halt to that drive.
On a fourth down play, W-B tried a reverse that the Tigers blew up for a five yard loss and Chilton went into halftime up by those two scores.
In the fourth quarter with just under four minutes left and down 27-14, W-B had driven to the Tiger 11, but Liam Higgins forced a fumble on a sack of Charger quarterback Logan Balliett and Chilton recovered to end that threat.
Offensively, Gaven Lisowe ran for two TD's and caught another from Tiger QB Tyler Meyer. Meyer had a fourth quarter keeper for a score as Chilton, seeded third, moves on improving their overall record to 8-2, their first 8-win season since the Scott Fritz/Ray Mlada led 2007 squad. W-B finishes 6-4.
Chilton moves onto a Level 2 game next Friday at second seeded Kewaunee. The Storm had to rally in the fourth quarter for a dramatic 36-35 win over #7 Omro scoring the go-ahead touchdown and two-point conversion in the final minute.
