Connor Voelker of Kiel
Ryan Broeckel’s phenomenal season has resulted in him being voted Player of the Year in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference as the All-EWC Boys Basketball Teams were released.
The senior forward from Chilton led the conference in scoring average at 17.2 points a game and topped the EWC in rebounding at 10.8 caroms per game. He is the only repeat First Team pick from a year ago and will play collegiately at Wisconsin Lutheran College.
Joining Broeckel on the First Team is Kiel senior guard Connor Voelker. Voelker led a major Raider comeback as the team got off to a slow start due to its championship football season. He averaged 14.4 points a game (tied for fourth) and was fourth in three-point field goals made with 33. Voelker was Second Team a year ago.
Strangely, the player with the most points in conference play (Broeckel missed one game due to illness) had to settle for Second Team honors.
New Holstein star guard Alex Baackes netted 238 points, 14 more than second place Broeckel. The senior, headed to Carroll University, also led the EWC in total field goals made with 92.

More honors
For the second year in a row Chilton senior guard Will Kapral earns Second Team honors. He tied Kiel’s Carson Lepisto as the EWC’s top free throw shooter (minimum 20 attempts) making 34 of 45 for 80 percent. Kapral was third in scoring at 15.2 points a game.
The lone honorable mention selection for the area is Kiel junior guard Travis Kohlmann. He was third in EWC field goal percentage (minimum 50 attempts) making 55 of 94 shots for 58.5 percent.
