Years ago, Sundays were different than they are now.
After church, family members gathered around the table for Sunday dinner, which was usually done on a grander scale than weekday meals. There was a strict rule about eating on the couch while watching TV—it was never allowed. The only time I remember the TV on during Sunday dinner was during President Kennedy’s funeral, in 1963. Dad and my brother turned the TV so we could watch while seated at the dining room table. I’ll never forget it.
Roasted or fried chicken was a popular Sunday dinner entrée, along with potatoes, vegetables, and bread. Dessert was more elaborate on Sunday, too—there was a pie, torte or cake (or two!) waiting on the sideboard to finish the weekly feast.
