To the editor:
Congressman Glen Grothman has signed on as an original co-sponsor of a piece of bi-partisan legislation called POWADA, the Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act.
In 1967, the Federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act protected workers age 40 and older from being forced out of jobs or denied employment because of their age. In 2009 the Supreme Court ruled in Gross v. FBL Financial Services, Inc. that older workers would have to show that their age was the critical reason for an employer’s action against them. Statistics show that more than 60 percent of workers age 45 and older have seen or experienced age discrimination.
