Something called the “Green New Deal” got a little bit of play in the media in the past week, even though the phrase dates back more than 15 years.
New York Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez—who has been a polarizing figure since being elected—is one of the people pushing the current form of a Green New Deal which calls for making some pretty drastic changes to how Americans currently consume and use energy.
Nobody is opposed to helping the environment and using cleaner, more efficient forms of energy. Supporters of the Green New Deal admit it includes some far-reaching measures, but they say desperate times require desperate measures. Other people have literally laughed at how unattainable, unwise, and expensive they believe some of the proposals are in this “New Deal.”
