Peggy A. Griem, 91, of New Holstein passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2019 at Brillion West Haven Assisted Living.
She was born Jan. 31, 1928 in Milwaukee to Otto C. and Blanche (Krzyzanowski) Wiese. Peggy graduated from Lincoln High School in Milwaukee in 1945. She received her bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1949 and her master’s degree in English in 1973 from UW-Oshkosh.
Peggy dedicated 25 years educating students in English at the elementary level (seventh and eighth grades) and three years at the high school, all in the New Holstein Public School System. She retired in 1990.
While teaching, her motto to “respect the students and they’ll respect you” was something she had always practiced and found to be successful.
On Jan. 31, 1952 she married Karl J. Griem in Waukesha. Karl preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1995.
Peggy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in New Holstein and the New Holstein Historical Society. She was a past member of the New Holstein Library Board, past secretary of Tambling Lake Association in Eagle River, past member of the Master Gardeners of Calumet County, and formerly belonged to several local bridge clubs.
Survivors include her two children, Peggy E. (Mike) Weller of Appleton and Richard K. (Debra) Griem of Kiel; her grandchildren, Nick (Sara) Weller and Patrick (Dana) Weller; three great-grandchlldren, Ashton, Brooke, and Raegen Weller; and her brother, Ronald O. Wiese of New Berlin. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
For 52 years, Peggy enjoyed spending part of her summers and other times of the year at the family cottage overlooking a lake near Eagle River.
Peggy’s family would like to express their heart-felt appreciation to Brillion West Haven Assisted Living where she resided for the past nine years and to Heartland Hospice, especially her nurse Julie, for their wonderful and compassionate care given to her for the past year and a half.
