She was born May 26, 1929, in Chilton, daughter of the late Roland and Elise (Everix) Miller.

As a child Joan was given the nickname Jo-Jo from her father as she attended St. Mary Catholic Grade School. She later graduated from Chilton High School before enrolling in the Cradle Nursing School in Chicago. Following her graduation from nursing school, Joan worked in the nursery at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan and ultimately Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. Joan married George J. Bruckner on Aug. 26, 1950, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Chilton and cherished her strong Catholic Faith which carried her throughout her life.

With a passion for the outdoors, Joan looked for any and all opportunities to be outside. She enjoyed cross country skiing, going parasailing, horse back riding, cruising the countryside while enjoying a delicious ice cream cone and spending time on the river walk. She also enjoyed canoeing down the mighty Manitowoc River and attending the Chilton City Band Concerts at the fairgrounds. Joan was an amazing cook, specializing in wild game. With five boys and a husband who loved to hunt and fish, she was never in short supply of meals. Joan also enjoyed attending sporting events of her children and grandchildren.

Above all of the blessings in her life, Joan treasured her family the most. She loved to be around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and constantly found ways to put their needs ahead of her own.
