Eugene L. Schmitz, 88, of New Holstein, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, surrounded by his family.

He was born Dec. 13, 1930, to Henry and Anna Morgan Schmitz.

He attended St. Charles Grades School in Charlesburg and graduated from St. Lawrence Seminary in Mt. Calvary. Eugene received an electronics degree from DeVry University.

On July 9, 1955, he married Dolores Steffen at St. Joe Catholic Church in St. Joe.

Eugene worked for the Kohler Company before moving to Charlesburg. After a few years they built their home and enjoyed hobby farming while raising their eight children. He then joined his brother Stanley in the dairy equipment Surge business where he did electrical and installation up until retirement.

He was an usher and member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marytown.

Eugene was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. He was always ready to lend a helping hand.

Survivors include his wife Dolores; his seven children, Jim (Barb) Schmitz of Two Rivers, Dave (Kay) Schmitz of Sheboygan, Dr. Paul (Tracy) Schmitz of Green Bay, Dianna Wolff of Two Rivers, Deb (Gary) Friederichs of Chilton, Joan Schmitz of Fond du Lac and Susan Daun of St. Cloud; his daughter-in-law Christy Schmitz of New Holstein; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley (Ginny) Schmitz of Charlesburg and Cyril (Janet) Schmitz of Charlesburg; and his sister-in-law Angie Schmitz of Kiel. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; his son Brian; his brother Jerome; his brother-in-law Eugene Steffen; sister-in-law Theresa Steffen and two sons-in-law, Darrel Daun and Larry Wolff.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, N10232 CTH G, New Holstein. Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Avenue in New Holstein on Friday, Jan. 11 from 4 until 8 p.m. Visitation will also be held Saturday morning, Jan. 12 at St. Mary’s Church from 9 until 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at a later date.
