Dorothy Marie Schmitz, 97, of Chilton died on March 10, 2020, at Ascension Calumet Hospital in Chilton.
She was born Feb. 7, 1923, daughter to the late Mathias and Margaret (Feldner) Berenz. In 1943 she married Elmer Schmitz and they had two children.
Dorothy lived most of her life in St. Cloud. She enjoyed baking and was known for her peanut squares and her strawberry-rhubarb jam. No one ever left her home without one or the other, and the lucky ones got both. She was also asked often to make her German potato salad for potluck dinners and bake sales. She was very kind-hearted and was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church in St. Cloud, as well as Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Chilton. She volunteered her time with the Christian Mothers in St. Cloud and the American Legion Auxiliary in St. Cloud. She worked at Tecumseh for 31 years and then cleaned homes for 20 more.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Carol (Joe) Dreifuerst; grandchildren Brian (Angie), Cheryl (Richard), Lisa, Tammy (Jay), Holly (Chad), Heidy (Paul), and Gerald (Brandy); 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is further survived by her sister-in-law, Alice Berenz.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; a daughter, Ruth Ann Rink; her parents; sisters Angelita (Leander) Schmitz, Ermina (Alois) Schaub, and Aldine (Donald) Sippel; and her brothers, Alfred (Dolores) Berenz, Harold (Ellen) Berenz, and Claude Berenz.
Private family services were planned.
