The Kiel High School musical "Newsies" was a smash hit November 1-4.
Big Fish draws big audiences
The 2018 Spring Musical performance of Big Fish, drew big crowds to the Castle Theater and Kiel High School. The finale was held April 28, following a postponement by a major April snowstorm. Maple Syrup Sunday is planned at Ledge View Nature Center near Chilton. The event and demonstrations are free; the optional pancake breakfast is a fundraiser for the nonprofit volunteer group the Friends of Ledge View Nature Center. The event is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sugarbush tours start at 9:30 a.m. and go every half hour, with the final tour at 2 p.m. The breakfast runs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It includes pancakes, real maple syrup made at the park, ham, applesauce, and beverages. The breakfast is $8 for ages 13 and up, $4 for ages 6 to 12, and free for 5 and under. A shuttle bus will run continuously from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from the south water tower in Chilton on STH 32/57 to the park.

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Small Business Development Center will offer free one-on-one business counseling sessions from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for new and existing Calumet County businesses and entrepreneurs. Counseling sessions last one to two hours, and free follow-up assistance is available for businesses as needed. Sessions are held monthly at the Calumet County Courthouse, 206 Court St. in Chilton. An appointment is required for the individual, confidential sessions and can be made by contacting Mary Kohrell, community economic development director, at 849-1680 or via e-mail at mary.kohrell@calumetcounty.org.

Blood donations will be accepted at Maximillian’s in Mount Calvary from 11:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. Persons who are healthy, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and are at least 17 years old (age 16 with parental consent) can give blood at the American Red Cross event. Walk-ins are welcome. As is tradition, donors will be treated to a light lunch compliments of local area contributors, businesses, and volunteers.

The Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center will be hosting their third Breakfast at the Barn. Doors will open at 7:15 a.m. with the breakfast buffet starting at 7:30 a.m. A presentation from Dave Wilfert is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Dave Wilfert, co-owner and general manager of Wilfert Farms, LLC will be presenting “Wilfert Farms and its 142-year love affair with Manitowoc County.” The breakfast and presentation are included in the ticket price. Tickets are $10 for Farm Wisconsin members and $15 for nonmembers. Nonmembers may also add a tour of Farm Wisconsin for an additional $5. Tickets must be pre-purchased either online at https://farmwisconsin.org/tickets/, by calling Farm Wisconsin at (920) 726-6000 or purchasing at Farm Wisconsin’s front desk during business hours. Ticket deadline is Tuesday, March 19.
