Three more area veterans—all Viet Nam vets—were presented with quilts of valor recently at Elisha D. Smith Public Library in Menasha.

Kristine Van Eyck—spokesperson for Darting Needles Quilt Guild, an area group who volunteers their time and material to make quilts to honor veterans who have served—presented the quilts to Dennis Wiesner, Dan DeTroye, and Wayne Steffen. After a brief introduction and history of Quilts of Valor, presentations were made one at a time to each nominee. The quilt is shown to all who attend and then wrapped around the recipient. The quilts are a way of saying “thank you for your service, sacrifice, and valor in serving our nation in combat.” Just like the recipients themselves, no two quilts are ever the same. Quilts of Valor was founded in 2003 by Catherine Roberts whose son was deployed in Iraq. Anyone interested in obtaining more information about Quilts of Valor should contact Van Eyck at Darting Needles Quilt Guild, P.O. Box 2684 Appleton WI 54912-2684 or Quilts of Valor Foundation at WWW.qovf.org. People also can request a quilt for any service veteran at this website.
