This week’s old photo comes from East Main Street in downtown Chilton. It is from 1945. Starting with the partial view of the building on the left, this was Joe Woelfel’s Chilton Modern Appliance Store. Next to it was the Horst Miller Co. Sport Shop. Both of these buildings burnt down in 1948.

Next the lighter colored building was the home of Dell Roll; a few years earlier it was Haessley’s Variety Store. The next bigger building was the Chilton Hardware and Furniture Store. Today it is Inspire Dreams Child Care Center at 238 E. Main St. The next building with the Blatz Beer sign was Pete Thiel’s Tavern and Boarding House. Next was Ernie Loehr’s Barber Shop. The taller building with the Coca Cola and Rexall signs was the Hipke Drug Store which also was a soda fountain and paint store.
