Doug Prange, a New Holstein school bus driver for New Holstein Transportation Co., was awarded the 2018 Outstanding Driver Award for his fast thinking that saved a student’s life this past school year.

At a student drop-off, the students needed to cross the road in a village that is under heavy construction. The traffic was clear, so Prange motioned for the kids to proceed across but as the students were in front of the bus he saw in his side mirror a dump truck rapidly approaching. He honked his horn causing the students to stop and look up. At that point the dump truck passed the bus. Prange kept the students safe until the road was clear to cross. The award was given at the Wisconsin School Bus Association Conference held in June in La Crosse.
