A Congressional Medal of Honor was awarded posthumously to Eugene Ruh of New Holstein.

It was given to Ruh’s daughter, Anne Ruh, on June 6 by Congressman Glenn Grothman. June 6 was the 75th anniversary of D-day. During World War II, Eugene was part of the 801st/492 bombardment group also known as the “Carpetbaggers.” He was the flight engineer and top turret gunner on a B24 flying secret night missions over allied countries in Europe. His crew dropped supplies and spies on these clandestine missions. His group was part of the OSS or Office of Strategic Services. The OSS was officially honored in Washington, D.C. on March 21, 2018. More about the official ceremony and the OSS can be found on the website Oss@socciety.org.
