Planning Zone Department Director Matt Payette held an informational meeting at the Calumet County Courthouse Wednesday evening to discuss revisions being made to the General Zoning County Ordinance - Chapter 82.

Payette said the comprehensive revision of the zoning ordinance really started with changes to state laws, including Act 55, which deals with shoreline zoning on areas around lakes and rivers, as well as Act 67, which deals with variances and conditional uses, and Act 68, which deals with nonconforming structures. Furthermore, the ruling in the US Supreme Court case Reed vs Gilbert, which dealt with sign regulation and free speech, also created the need to review the ordinance to ensure compliance.
