New Holstein High School's football team went messin' with sasquatch on Saturday, Oct. 31 and gave the top-ranked Big Foot High School team all it could handle before falling 21-7. Austin Polster recorded a 73-yard touchdown run on the game's first play from scrimmage and New Holstein carried that 7-0 lead into halftime. This was against a Walworth team which was unbeaten and had outscored its opponents by an average score of 36-6 this season. In the second half, however, a controversial pass completion set up Big Foot's first score, and a blown assignment in the secondary gave the Chiefs another score. In a much easier game than expected, New Holstein High School's football team rolled to a 40-0 victory Tuesday evening (Oct. 27) over visiting Mayville-a team which played in the state championship game just three years ago and destroyed New Holstein in an opening round playoff game on its way there. New Holstein controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, allowing senior Austin Polster and junior Cody Thede to find the end zone several times each. The Huskies now travel to Walworth on Saturday for a 3 p.m. game against Big Foot High School, which is undefeated and lost in the state title game last year. Kiel girls placed third with 105 points trailing just champion Cedar Grove-Belgium (85) and runnerup Fond du Lac St. Mary's Springs (93). The Raiders beat four conference schools, three of which are conference title contenders with Kiel.

Organizers of the event, Erick and Anne Adams, parents of Sarah, were extremely pleased with the turnout despite the inclement weather. Sarah Adams, a former Kiel High School athlete, passed away last winter in a traffic accident. Proceeds from this event are shared by the Sarah Adams Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Kiel Raider cross country program of which Sarah was a member. >A multi-million dollar renovation to Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse greeted participants for Day 1 of the 114th Annual WIAA State Track and Field Championships.
Although some finals are held, most of Day 1 is preliminary round action. Area athletes competing on Day 1 included Kate Schabach (shot put), Ryan Birschbach (pole vault) and Jimmy Hall (400 dash) of New Holstein; Justin Juckem (100 dash), Jordan Pethan (hurdles), Cody Kurscheidt (3200 run) and the Chilton 3200 relay team; and from Kiel, Chris Barrette (hurdles) and Derek Rickert (triple jump).
The weather took a turn for the worse for Day 2 of the WIAA State Track Meet at UW-La Crosse, but area competitors reached the awards podium three different times. Alex Steiner of Chilton successfully defended his state 800 meter title, while the Chilton girls 3200 relay team and Kiel's Derek Rickert (long jump) also medaled.

New Holstein High School's boys soccer team lost a thriller Friday afternoon in the WIAA State Tournament Division 3 semifinal as Columbus won in a shootout 5-3. The Cardinals scored a fluke goal early in the game as a long shot took a big hop over the Husky goalie and trickled into the net. In the second half, New Holstein's Mike Forstner made the most of a penalty shot, knocking it into the corner of the net. The ball passed through a hole in the net so fans were not initially sure if it was a goal, but the cheers came as the goal became apparent. trip to the WIAA State Summer Baseball Tournament on July 30. This
was the final time that the tournament was to be held at Stevens
Point's Bukolt Park after a 20-year run.
The Huskies took on Milwaukee Marquette in its state quarterfinal
contest. After closing to within 6-4, New Holstein committed a pair
of costly errors that led to five unearned runs and a 11-4 defeat to

The game was played Thursday, July 17 at New Holstein. The Honor
Guard from the New Holstein American Legion Post 124 was on hand to
present the colors and NHHS student Jamie Galarno sang the National
Anthem.
In the end, it was Chilton pulling out a thrilling 2-1 win over the

After watching the Minor League Wisconsin Timberrattlers do battle
with the Peoria Chiefs, the Huskies took to the field against Eastern
Wisconsin Conference rival Plymouth.

Raider Boys Basketball Camp last week at the Kiel High School gym.

| NH Youth Soccer Tourney-VIDEO |
Dozens of teams featuring hundreds of participants, parents and other
fans made their annual trip to New Holstein for the New Holstein
Youth Soccer Tournament on Saturday. There was some doubt the day
before the tournament whether or not it would be able to go on
because of Thursday night's stormy deluge, but organizers and city
officials decided to go ahead with it. Other than a few spots where
goalies did their work, the ground held up quite well during the day-
long tournament held at Kiwanis Park and at the high school. Monday, June 16, 2008

The New Holstein girls soccer team played Milwaukee University School to a 1-1 overtime in the Division 3 championship game of the WIAA State Tournament held at Milwaukee's Uihlein Soccer Park. Kayla Konen scored NH's goal.
The game was then decided in a shootout where USM made two of its five shots to the Huskies one (made by Meghan Pasineau) and the Wildcats earned the state championship. New Holstein
made just its second appearance to state in school history and its first state championship game. They advanced by beating Menasha St. Mary Central 2-1 in a semifinal contest. Monday, June 09, 2008

| NH Soccer Sectional Champs-VIDEO |
Scoring in the first four minutes of the game, New Holstein High
School's girls soccer team took charge early Saturday and never
looked back as it rolled to a 4-1 win in a WIAA sectional
championship soccer game vs. Fond du Lac St. Mary Springs. The
Huskies led 2-0 at halftime, then scored once again within the first
four minutes of the second half to take a 3-0 lead. New Holstein led
4-0 before Springs finally got on the scoreboard. The sectional final
was held at Sheboygan County Christian High School. The local girls
advance to the State Tournament this Friday in Milwaukee. It will be

| State Track '08-VIDEO |
The 113th Annual WIAA State Track and Field Championships took place
over a two-day period at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the campus of
UW-La Crosse.
Boys and girls track athletes in three divisions made up the field of
hundreds of state competitors.
Chilton, Kiel and New Holstein athletes managed to receive medals for
their accomplishments.
The highlights of the meet for local athletes included Alex Steiner
of Chilton winning the Division 2 state title in the 800 meter run
and doing it in dramatic fashion. The following day, Kiel senior Zach
Schneider made it two gold medals for area athletes as he won the
Division 2 state title in the 400 meter dash.
Also hitting the awards stand were the boys 3200 meter relay team
from Chilton with a second place finish, Damian Hilbert of Chilton
with a fourth place medal in the 3200 meter run, New Holstein's Codi
Klapperich who was sixth in the long jump, and Kiel sophomore Kim
Hennings. She took sixth place in the girls 800 meter run. Monday, June 02, 2008

| Girls Regional Soccer |
New Holstein stayed alive while Kiel suffered a tough one-goal defeat as WIAA girls soccer regional finals took place on Saturday, May 24.
In the WIAA Division 3 regional championship at New Holstein, Sallie Fett scored off a Kayla Konen assist eight minutes into the game and she added a second half goal as well in the Huskies' 3-0 win over Sheboygan Lutheran. Konen also netted a second half goal as NH advances to host Oostburg in a sectional semifinal on Thursday, May 29 at 7 p.m.
This was the Huskies' 15th shutout of the season with Brittni Buechel once again coming up big as goalie.
At Grafton, Kiel's season came to an end in a 1-0 loss to Sheboygan Falls in a Division 2 regional final. Hannah Mayer scored the winner for Falls with 12 minutes left. The Raiders mounted some second half attacks only to come up empty.

All three Tri-County News area high schools will have representatives in both the boys and girls WIAA State Track and Field Championships next weekend following Division 2 sectional competition Thursday in Two Rivers.
For the boys, Chilton sends two individuals in three events and one relay team, while Kiel sends two individuals in two events and no relay teams, and New Holstein has one individual and one relay team headed to state.
New Holstein leads the girls contingient with two individuals in the same event (pole vault). Kiel has one individual and Chilton is sending a relay team to La Crosse. Wednesday, May 28, 2008

The Chilton Tiger baseball team traveled to Brillion on Tuesday, May
20 for its Olympian Conference finale. Senior pitcher Aaron Leitner
tossed a complete game shutout striking out eight Brillion batters in
a 11-0 Chilton win. With the victory, and a loss by Manitowoc
Lutheran, the Tigers clinched the outright Olympian championship.

The WIAA Division 2 Track & Field Regional was held Monday, May 19,
at Valders High School.
On the boys side, Kiel easily won the team title scoring 144 points.
The Raiders were led by Chris Barrette and Zach Schneider who won two
individual events each.
Chilton came in third place and the New Holstein boys were fifth. All
three area teams have several sectional qualifiers.
For the girls, New Holstein had the most success placing second to
champion Sheboygan Falls. Alayna Muldoon won the pole vault to lead
the Huskies. Chilton girls placed fourth and Kiel came in ninth. Like
the boys, all three local girls teams have sectional qualifiers.
