Burkhardt EyeCare Center

BEHIND THE FRONT PAGE-Healthy dose of common sense required when behind the wheel
I'm guilty.
I confess that quite often I'm trying to multitask while I'm behind the wheel of a vehicle.

MADISON REPORT-New governor will be asked to stop dumping waste into lake
One of my biggest frustrations over the past number of years has been the inability or unwillingness of our state to stop or dramatically reduce the dumping of wastewater sewage into Lake Michigan by the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD).

KIELEIDOSCOPE-Local school boards are education leaders
The classrooms are open, let the learning begin. The school year began on September 1. Our students are now captured and within our midst for the next one hundred and eighty-one days.

READER OPINION-Ballot can be confusing in state primary
When you go to the polls on Sept. 14, you will read this paragraph on your ballot:
"If you wish to designate your party preference, completely darken the oval to the left of the party of your choice. If you designate a party preference, only votes cast for that party will be counted.

EDITORIAL-Another primary, another round of discontent
Do not vote for Jack Lechler in the Sept. 14 primary election.
That statement has nothing to do with, nor holds anything against Lechler, the Kiel resident who is running for State Senate as an Independent.

BEHIND THE FRONT PAGE-Closed road can provide life lessons...and
I enjoy trying to see a life lesson in things that happen around me everyday.
You might have noticed that is a recurring theme in my columns over the years.

READER OPINIONS-Parental involvement helps students
Another school year is about ready to begin.
The kids have new outfits, and parents have done their best to find all the items on the school supply lists. With the school's assistance, your child is ready for a new school year.

READER OPINION-Not one taxpayer spoke in favor of new garage
At last week's Calumet County Board meeting an attempt by several fiscally responsible supervisors to introduce resolution #2010-23 for a remodeling option as opposed to the recent resolution to build a new building at a new location with the current building being destroyed and hauled to an every expanding landfill was introduced.

The events of last week should serve as a wakeup call.
We in Wisconsin are not immune from the problems that are impacting states like Arizona, Texas and California. We read, see and hear stories about parks in Arizona with warning signs advising Arizona and U.S. citizens not to enter because the parks are dangerous.

READER OPINION-What is more offensive, nicknames or state of basics
Hip, hip, hooray for your August 12 editorial on the hassle about nicknames for school sports teams. And shame on all the members of the state legislature who were enablers of this farce which in effect is "one man" rule or a "majority of one."
Friday, August 20, 2010

Wednesday, August 18, 2010
READER OPINION-Inconsiderate pet owners set a bad example

Peculiar way to phrase it, I guess, but that is how it appears.

READER OPINION-Paying for the cost of freedom a citizen duty
When we think of the cost of freedom, our thoughts generally turn to our military personnel who are serving, have served, or have paid the ultimate price. How many also think of the cost we, as citizens, also bear?

Not this year.

BEHIND THE FRONT PAGE-Vacationing with 25,000 Teenagers? Sounds strange, but it was awesome.
I hope at least a few of you missed seeing this column in last week's Tri-County News.
