The Tri-County News and are on site at the Kohl Center in Madison for the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament. Our area has three representatives competing in Division 2 preliminary round action Thursday night beginning at 7 p.m.

Wrestlers that win tonight advance to quarterfinal round action late Friday morning. Thursday night losers will be eliminated.
We will provide an update late Thursday night on our three area grapplers.
Here is a preview of their prelim matches.

132 POUNDS- ABE SELL (Chilton/Hilbert)
A junior, Sell is making his second trip to state. His first came two years ago when he placed fourth as a freshman. He spent his sophomore season studying abroad in France but is back at state following a third place finish last Saturday at the Division 2 Milwaukee Lutheran Sectional. Sell brings a 43-3 mark to the Kohl Center Thursday night for his first round match with Mitchel Harmon (26-8), a freshman from Bloomer/Colfax. That winner advances to Friday morning’s quarterfinal against Jordan Sarver (40-4), a senior from Nekoosa/Wisconsin Rapids Assumption/Port Edwards.

160 POUNDS- PJ LADD (Chilton/Hilbert)

Ladd sports a 43-5 record on the year as the senior enters state for the first time. Like Sell, he took third Saturday at the Milwaukee Lutheran Sectional. Ladd faces Viroqua’s Dalton Bernett (40-10), a senior, in their 160 pound first round match with Anders Lantz (39-5) of Ellsworth awaiting the winner Friday afternoon.

195 POUNDS- MATT BUECHEL (New Holstein)

The last to go Thursday night is Husky senior Matt Buechel back at state after just missing placing a year ago when NH competed in Division 3. They are back to Division 2 this year. Buechel brings a 30-7 record into Madison’s Kohl Center for his Thursday night first round match when he faces Hayden Arneson (31-6), a senior from Monroe. The winner advances to an early Friday afternoon quarterfinal match with Hunter Luepke (36-2) from Spencer/Marshfield Columbus.
