Led by conference champions in four events, the Brillion/Valders/Chilton boys swimming and diving team placed second to defending champ Plymouth at the 2017 Eastern Wisconsin Conference Boys Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday at Plymouth. The host Panthers netted 592 points to BVC’s 466.
Freshman Parker Sonnabend, son of former Chilton High School coach and athletic director Dave Sonnabend, claimed two EWC titles. The first came in the 200 yard individual medley that he won in 2:11.83 and the other came as part of a 1-2 BVC finish in the 100 breaststroke with his time at 1:09.24. Chilton’s Payton Van Rooy was second at 1:13.14.

Other champs
BVC finished no worse than fifth in any one event and the 100 yard butterfly was a big point producer as Valders’ Eli Riesterer won in 56.55 seconds with Isaac Koehler third at 1:01.78. Bo Geiger followed that up by claiming the conference title in the 100 yard freestyle at 51.82 seconds with Van Rooy fourth.
BVC had four runnerup finishers including diver Jose Martinez at 340.20 points and all three relay teams. Geiger, Sonnabend, Riesterer and Van Rooy in the medley relay (1:48.24) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:36.74), and the 400 freestyle relay of Koehler, Ben Berger, Garrett Braun and Riesterer (3:44.58).
The 200 freestyle saw Geiger take third and Braun sixth, while Ethan Monka was fourth and Colton Lemke sixth in the 50 freestyle. Berger added fifth place points in the 500 freestyle as did Koehler in the 100 backstroke. The BVC “B” team of Lemke, Patrick Guerin, Dwight Eben and Berger, were fifth in the 200 freestyle relay.
BVC heads to Ashwaubenon this weekend for the WIAA Division 2 Sectional. Martinez, looking for a return trip to state, competes in diving Friday night at 5:30 pm and the swimmers compete Saturday at 1 pm.
