Joan I. Marquardt, 87, of Sheboygan, died on Monday, March 13, 2017, at Coutryside Manor, Sheboygan.
She was the former Joan Abbott, born on Nov. 19, 1929, in Northhampton, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Harlan J. and Marion (Taylor) Abbott.
Joan was a graduate of St. Michaels High School in 1948. She had previously worked at Bordens Co., Plymouth, Kohler Co., Bemis Mfg and was a receptionist at Donahue and Associates, Sheboygan. She was the head of the National Secretary Association for many years.
Joan was a longtime resident of Sheboygan Falls. After retirement she moved to Two Rivers, relocated to Florida to be near her daughter before returning to Sheboygan in 2008.
She always had an upbeat personality, keeping herself busy helping her neighbors. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, painting, gardening, reading and the company of her babies, her dogs. Joan's love for painting won her a first prize at the Sheboygan County Fair.
Survivors include her three children, Linda (Duane) Buchmann of Howards Grove, Beth Stimson of Sheboygan Falls and Susan (Bruce) Anderson of Vermont; six grandchildren, David (Natalie) Schmidt, Leah (Jim) Wagaman- Colón, Daryn Buchmann, Mark (Amber) Provencher, Michelle Provencher and Nadine (Josh) Neuhaus. She is further survived by 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one sister Cynthia (Bill) Balke; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson Rob Provencher; one granddaughter Diana Buchmann; one great-granddaughter Angel; two sisters, Holly and Sherrell; one brother Keith and her twin sister JoAnne.
Funeral services for Joan will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 19 at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home (815 6th St., Kiel) with Pastor Kim Henning officiating. Entombment will take place in Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 p.m. until the time of service.
