The SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. The Shire of Turm an dem See hosted Mermaid's XVI Retreat on May 30, 2009 at Camp Sinawa of Valders. This group is a branch of the SCA in the Woodlands Region in the Kingdom of Northshield. Their Shire encompasses the Counties of Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Calumet and Fond du Lac. Planned Activities included: Armored Combat , Archery , Arts & Sciences Display , Bardic Activities , Classes , Dancing , Rapier Combat , Thrown Weapons , Youth Activities. SCA's "Known World" consists of 19 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world. Members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events which feature tournaments, royal courts, feasts, dancing, various classes & workshops, and more. Participants occupied the camp from Friday through Sunday.
