What has become an annual event at St. Martin Heritage Park along CTH T in the town of Charlestown was conducted again on Sunday, Sept. 27 to continue the embellishment of the park and to honor the memory of longtime members of the former St. Martin Catholic Parish.
Relatives and friends of five couples, all of whom are deceased, took part in a walking tour and a brief ceremony which recognized the items which are or soon will be in place next to plaques identifying those persons.
For Clem and Grace Kolbe, the first Legacy maple tree in the park was planted. Soon to be planted is a shagbark hickory nut tree, coming from Pennsylvania, in memory of Joseph and Ethel Mueller.
Ralph and Shirley Leitner are being remembered with the planting of a spruce tree. A blue spruce tree was planted in honor of Jerome and Eleanor Woelfel.
A new pole lamp was installed a few days after the ceremonial event in honor of Alfred “Fritz” and Marcella Geiser. Each of the memorials was financed by a contribution to the park by the sponsoring families.
